AVP Research, Irena Creed

Roles and Responsibilities
As an associate vice-president research (AVPR), Irena is a key member of the vice-president research executive team and a member of the university’s Senior Leadership Forum. Irena works collaboratively to foster new research programs and forge inter-disciplinary and inter-agency research partnerships. As the AVPR, Irena provides strategic leadership and oversight to a number of areas. She is responsible for:
- Serving as the institution’s Social Science and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) Leader;
- Leading a number of institutional projects and initiatives, including the university’s plan for sustainability, the OVPR's publicly engaged scholarship initiative, open access, and reviewing institutional grants;
- Participating on a number of internal committees, including the Planning and Priorities Committee, the Policy Oversight Committee, the Joint Committee on Chairs and Professorships Committee, amongst many others;
- Serving on a number of external boards and committees, including the Government of Saskatchewan’s Advanced Education Committee, the Prairie Swine Centre Executive Committee, the Livestock and Forage Centre of Excellence Board;
- Overseeing a number of research centres and shared research facilities/platforms including the Saskatchewan Structural Sciences Centre (SSSC) and the Canadian Hub for Applied and Social Research (CHASR);

Roles and Responsibilities
- Leadership for strategic initiatives to foster and enhance research success at USask, including its academic units, research centers and institutes;
- Advancing international research activity and impact, and providing oversight of the International Research and Partnerships Office;
- Defining and communicating priorities and outcomes for the health research portfolio, and building and promoting the health discovery agenda of the University through a variety of strategies and contacts;
Acting as the institution’s CIHR Tri-Council Leader, working closely with the institution’s other Tri-Agency Leaders and Associate Research Deans to build the innovation agenda within and across their units at an institutional level.
