Role

The Associate Vice-President, Strategic Communications provides campus-wide vision to support and advance institutional reputation. The AVP’s role is to work with units across campus to oversee an integrated, strategic, and contemporary institutional communications strategy.

The AVP is responsible for providing the necessary leadership to ensure both innovation and consistency in the university’s marketing and communications work. The AVP oversees communication professionals located in colleges and departments across campus to ensure the integrity of the USask brand, to enhance the university’s profile and reputation, and promote the University of Saskatchewan.

Gordon Hunchak joined the University Relations leadership team in 2017. Gord, a USask grad (BComm) had wide-ranging experience in strategic branding, communications and marketing in the private and public sector, including many years leading post-secondary communications and external relations teams. Prior to joining USask, Gord served as associate vice-president, external relations at Brock University. Hunchak’s career includes senior marketing, communications and planning positions at Canadian Tire Financial Services, Meridian Credit Union, Niagara College Canada, and the Armstrong Strategy Group, along with numerous governance and volunteer leadership roles.
